Product Description Here are the books that help teach Shakespeare plays without the teacher constantly needing to explain and define Elizabethan terms, slang, and other ways of expression that are different from our own. Each play is presented with Shakespeare's original lines on each left-hand page, and a modern, easy-to-understand "translation" on the facing right-hand page. All dramas are complete, with every original Shakespearian line, and a full-length modern rendition of the text. These invaluable teaching-study guides also include: 1. Helpful background information that puts each play in its historical perspective. 2. Discussion questions that teachers can use to spark student class participation, and which students can use as springboards for their own themes and term papers. 3. Fact quizzes, sample examinations, and other features that improve student comprehension of what each play is about.

Great for Students May 22, 2000 LC (ca) 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
I am a student who had to read this book and I couldn't understand most of the stuff Shakespeare was writing. We first started to read some other books with the Old English type writing and I got a C- in this class because I couldnt understand it. We just started reading Romeo and Juliet and I had the same problem so I bought this book. Boy, did it help me! I got an A in my class! Another feature which I liked was how the layout is put side-by-side so if you have to read during class, you'll be able to know where everyone is and if you dont understand it, just go to the other side.

This was a great resource while teaching "Romeo and Juliet" last year to my English 1 students. I was able to explain the more difficult passages to them as we read along in the book. I wish that I had the money to purchase this book for all of my students. I plan to use it again this school year.
The map to begin a wonderful journey January 10, 2002 Larry Kaplan (Los Altos, CA USA) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Before this book, my wife and I never enjoyed Shakespeare very much. This book makes the play perfectly clear, and with the side-by-side arrangement, makes the original poetry understandable and beautiful. We watched the play afterward and finally began to glimpse the wonder that is hidden within the words.
Helper for Understanding September 5, 2007 Di 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this book for my high school Shakespeare class and found it to be the most helpful thing. With this book, you get a feel for what Shakespeare was saying in a language that you can understand. With my other Shakespeare books, I had to wait for my teacher to explain to us just what had happened in the lines we had just read. When I used this book, I understood the material before it was explained to me. I recommend this to anyone taking an Intro to Shakespeare class.

I would recommend this book to anyone studying "Romeo and Juliet." I would have never made it through English class without this book!
